Ron Horton
Florida State Volunteer Coordinator, Division of Institutions
Founder/President Veterans of the Cross Prison Ministry
Ron Horton is a retired U.S. Navy decorated FA-18 Strike Fighter pilot, ship captain, and seasoned leader with over 30 years of service to the nation in uniform and several more years of leading large-scale operations in civilian life. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and the Navy’s prestigious nuclear power program, he built a distinguished military career marked by operational excellence, resilience under pressure, and a steadfast commitment to service.
Over the course of his naval career, he commanded at every level—from squadron to ship to Task Force and Logistic Group. His leadership portfolio includes serving as Commanding Officer of an aircraft carrier-based Strike Fighter Squadron, an amphibious Landing Platform Ship, and the storied Nuclear-Powered Aircraft Carrier USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65). As a Rear Admiral, his roles later expanded to Naval Task Force Commander, Commander of a Navy Region, and Commander of a Naval Logistics Group—overseeing critical logistics, interoperability, and training with regional partners in support of U.S. and allied operations around the Western Pacific.
Following his transition from active duty, in addition to being a public speaker, he served in various roles in the private sector, leading high-performance teams in large-scale operations and e-commerce environments. Today, in his fully retired capacity, he continues his lifelong commitment to service as the Founder and Executive Director of Veterans of the Cross Prison Ministry—a Christ-centered outreach dedicated to mentoring and restoring incarcerated veterans. Through this ministry, he leads efforts to bring hope, purpose, and redemption to those behind bars, helping them rediscover their identity, dignity, and calling with a renewed sense of honor. Grounded in his christian faith, shaped by decades of leadership, and driven by a heart for service, Ron now invests in the lives of those who have served—and those seeking a second chance.
